INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CHRCEXL
IGNITION
Nearly all the instructions and trouble
shooting for our CH ignitions can be used with the CHRCEXL ignition
system. There are two plastic mounting lugs on the end of the ignition
case. I think these would break if you mounted the Ignition by
them.Mount the ignition as your would a receiver. Protect the spark
plug wire from rubbing on any part of the airframe. The spark plug wire
IS NOT replaceable. The cap and boot can be replaced.
Our new CHRCEXL
spark plug cap installs a little hard at first. Use some silicone spark
plug lube inside the boot and cap. Install by starting the cap over the
spark plug and push down hard turning counter clockwise. It should go
down almost to the top of the cylinder. The tricky part is to remove
the cap. To remove turn the cap clockwise as far as you can, do not
pull up, then turn counter clockwise while pulling up, it will come off
fairly easily. YES, turn counter clockwise for both operations DO NOT
use pliers on the cap DO NOT pry on the cap with a screwdriver. You
will destroy the cap and maybe pull the contact spring out of the
silicone boot; it cannot be put back in without taking the cap
apart. This will void the warantee on the cap and boot!
If the cap just will not come off, use a small flat blade screw driver
(1/8" wide) and push into the gap on the steel cover. Twist to pry the
cover open a small amount. It should then come right off. Do not push
the screw driver blade in more than 1/8" or you can damage the silicone
boot.
If the cap just fits way to tight you can file off the corners of the
hex of the spark plug and free it up. There is a difference in the size
of the hex on all spark plugs as much as .010. Even on the same size
and brand of spark plug this size can be a small amount different. Do
not take off very much as the cap is the only ground on the ignition
and must be tight.
This cap will
stop nearly any problem of RFI on any ignition system.
Use 4.8 volts only ,the Ignition is plenty hot on 4.8 volts. I have
been test flying two single cylinder engines with one LiPoly battery
(3.7volts). It seems to work fine on the CHRCEXL ignitions. The engine
will start missing at full throttle before the voltage drops low enough
to harm the LiPoly battery (Time to land).
The CHRCEXL runs very quite as far as RF. You can use a
Radio switch harness. Keep all wires as short as possible. We have a
switch harness with shorter wires and Futaba plugs. These are $7.50.
Make sure your polarity is correct. Check with a voltmeter at the
battery wires coming out of the switch harness. I have seen new battery
packs and switches wired wrong. This ignition is not reverse battery
protected. We can tell if the battery has been reversed this, is not
covered by warranty. If you want to run Lipo's you will have to use a
voltage regulator. The CHRCEXL system will use Futaba plugs on battery
wires and on the pulse switch. If your pulse switch now has a Dean’s
plug, you will have to put Deans on your Ignition. We can install a
Deans when you buy the system if you want. Some engines use the JST
plug the easiest way on these is to install a three pin deans on both
sides. Alternatively, put a Futaba plug on your pulse switch. Not all
of the JST plugs are wired the same. As we see these systems, we will
try to sort them out so we will no how you should wire your new system.
Many of the new Chinese engines are coming with the RCEXL ignition,
Some of these are not wired the same as our CHRCEXL system. Our
system is custom built for CH electronics by RCCEXL in China
